In-house recruitment teams benefit from an external talent ally

Avara is one of the UK’s biggest food businesses, supplying the country’s most popular supermarkets and restaurant chains – overseeing the whole process from farm to shelf. The company’s success has been built around attracting the best people by creating a great place to work. As the people function, HR has been a business-critical driver of the company’s success.

The challenge

Attracting high calibre finance and HR professionals, with the required FMCG and manufacturing sector backgrounds, to the company’s Herefordshire site, was proving a challenge for Avara’s in-house resourcing team. As a specialist finance and HR recruiter, focused on the Gloucestershire, Herefordshire, and Worcestershire market, they turned to Seymour John for help.

Our approach

Building a close relationship with an organisation enables us to build a deep understanding of a business, its values, ambitions, and culture. This has been invaluable when we have been recruiting into established teams.

For the past six years, we have worked closely with different teams, across Avara, to support them whenever they’ve had a hard-to-fill role. As a regional specialist, we know the market, and have built extensive talent networks, enabling us to dive into a deep pool of passive talent – head-hunting for the most suitable candidates, not just those who are ‘looking’.

The result

To date, we have successfully recruited into hard-to-fill roles across finance, HR, and talent acquisition, including:

  • Human Resources Advisor
  • Resourcing Officer
  • Internal Recruiter
  • Management Accountant
  • Assistant Management Accountant
  • Finance Business Partner
  • Finance Manager
  • Financial Controller

As such, for specialist roles across finance, HR, and talent acquisition, we are now operating as an extension of the internal recruitment team.

“I have worked with Seymour John recruiting a few roles within our finance and HR functions over the years and I personally have found them to be attentive and extremely supportive in their approach. I like that there is no falseness and no pushing! They are always professional and clearly value the importance of building relationships with their clients. I would and have recommended them to my colleagues and anyone looking to work with a knowledgeable, professional, and focused consultancy.”
