Top-to-bottom recruitment campaign for a new Finance Team

With the current Finance Director retiring, our client required a replacement. The successful candidate would need to hit the ground running, to lead an MBO process that required a stronger Finance team, allowing the owner-Director to step from the day-to-day running of the business.

The Context

Summit Systems are a well-established plastics and recycling equipment supplier, installer, and maintenance business based in Tamworth, with a turnover of £14million. Based on a positive previous experience, they chose to partner with Seymour John to build a new Finance Department, over the course of 12 months. The existing Finance Director was retiring, and the owner was initiating their own, gradual, exit strategy.

Our Approach

We ran an exclusive and retained Executive search process to identify the right Finance Director and developed and ran a competency-based interview process to highlight the most effective candidates for the job.

Having successfully installed the new FD – and providing interim support to plug some resource gaps within the wider team – a consultation process was set up to understand his vision and the team required to support it.

We searched for suitable candidates across the leading talent platforms, our own deep talent pool, and utilising our state-of-the-art smart-search technologies. In a challenging candidate market, the main hurdle was attracting high-quality candidates who were comfortable working in a fast-paced environment. Shortlisting the best candidates, we completed interviews, providing feedback and perspective to all parties, enabling a series of successful hires.

The Result

Over the space of 12 months, Seymour John successfully replaced/realigned every role within the Finance Team, which included a Finance Director, Financial Controller, Management Accountant, Purchase Ledger Clerk and, most recently, a Credit Controller. All five individuals are now working together successfully towards the next phase of Summit Systems’ continuing success.
