Search for a group Finance Director

The Camargue group is one of the UK’s leading independent communications consultancies with offices in London, Birmingham, York, and Cheltenham. It needed to recruit for a new Finance Director to support the strategic development of the business and its continued commercial success as a now employee-owned business.

The Context

The incumbent had been in post for over 30 years. Part of the management team that had overseen the evolution of the company into the award-winning corporate success it is today, he was responsible for setting up and managing the systems that have driven the group’s excellent business performance to date. As such, this was a significant appointment and the client, quite rightly, had high expectations of any potential candidates.

As the successful candidate would be joining an established, successful management team, a cultural, as well as technical capabilities fit would be a key consideration.

The Solution

For business-critical appointments, like this, we work on an exclusive, retained basis. Working closely with the Chair and the Managing Director – to gain an in-depth understanding of the company’s strategic objectives, vision, values, and culture – we developed a detailed specification of the ideal candidate.

We have over 20 years’ sector specialist and regionally focused experience, so we understand the market and have built extensive senior finance and executive talent networks. As well as targeted advertising, this means we were able to delve into our own database to identify six suitable candidates that were shortlisted for initial screening.

The result

The client brought forward three of these candidates for final interviews, successfully recruiting an exceptional finance leader who would be a great asset in contributing to the group’s next phase of evolution.

“The experience of working with Emma for our senior appointment was excellent. She was actively engaged in every part of the process and was a good sounding board throughout. She understood that the cultural requirements of the role were as important as its technical aspects. There was a candour there, too. Communication in the recruitment process is very important, as is a belief that you have someone who fundamentally gets what you need. We had both of these things with Emma and Seymour John.“
